Job Description: Under general supervision, performs the duties of a Police Officer. Participates in specialized unit activities such as crime prevention, re-certification, instructing criminal investigations, or managing special events.

University Police Officer II:

• Works under general supervision, performing law enforcement duties and must meet all Maryland Police Training Commission (MPTC) requirements for certification.
• Enforces laws of Maryland, apprehends and arrests violators.
• Conducts investigations and prepares incident reports.
• Responds to calls for service and emergencies on campus.
• Patrols campus to deter crime, identify hazards, and assist the university community.
• Enforces university rules, state and local laws, and issues citations.
• Directs vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
• Testifies in court.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of MPTC Academy or approved Police Academy
• Maryland Police Officer certification
• Valid driver’s license
• Physical ability as determined by medical exam
• Background check, polygraph, and psychological evaluation
• Drug screening and pre-employment checks

Conditions of Employment:

Selected candidates may undergo medical inquiries and must maintain certification as per MPTC. Employees are required to work 40 hours/week on rotating shifts, including weekends.
