Job summary

Middle Tennessee State University is seeking a licensed mental health professional to join Counseling Services as a Counselor. The role delivers short-term counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, and outreach to support student mental health and well-being within a collaborative university environment.

This is a full-time, 10-month salaried position with benefits. Work is 37.5 hours per week August–May, with June and July off; salary is paid in 12 equal monthly installments.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family counseling.
• Licensed in Tennessee or pursuing licensure with plan to be fully licensed within two years (or one year for out-of-state applicants to obtain TN license).
• Experience with college/university counseling centers or similar settings preferred.
• Experience with risk assessment and crisis intervention.
• Strong communication and organizational skills; proficient in EHR documentation.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual short-term counseling and crisis intervention.
• Conduct mental health intake assessments to determine level of care.
• Offer consultation and outreach to support student well-being and academic success.
• Coordinate referrals and case management for students requiring community-based care.
• Develop and deliver psychoeducational outreach and presentations to students and staff.
