Job summary

Middle Tennessee State University Counseling Services seeks a Counselor for a 10-month term (August–May) at 37.5 hours/week to provide short-term mental health counseling and crisis interventions to enrolled students. Duties include referrals, case management, group facilitation, outreach presentations, and interdepartmental consultation.

Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work or related field, and nine months of direct mental health experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, social work, or marriage and family counseling.
• Minimum nine (9) months experience providing direct mental health services to clients in a mental health related agency, hospital, university counseling center, or private practice setting.
• Has applied for licensure in the State of Tennessee as an LPC MHSP, LCSW, LMFT, LSPE HSP, or PhD/PsyD HSP, with the ability to be fully licensed in two years. If licensed in another state, the ability to become licensed in Tennessee within one year.
• Three years of paid experience post licensure as an LPC MHSP, LCSW, LMFT, LSPE HSP, or PhD/PsyD HSP, providing direct mental health services to students in a university/college counseling center strongly preferred.
• Currently licensed in Tennessee as an LPC MHSP, LCSW, LMFT, LSPE HSP, or PhD/PsyD HSP.

Responsibilities

• Provide short-term mental health counseling and crisis interventions to currently enrolled students.
• Provide appropriate referral services for students with mental health needs beyond Counseling Services' scope of care, followed by brief case management to ensure continuity of care.
• Coordinate and facilitate counseling and skill-building groups for students.
• Offer psycho-educational outreach presentations to classes, student groups, and faculty/administrative groups.
• Serve as a consultant to faculty, departments, and administration as appropriate, and perform other related tasks or special projects.
