Job summary

The New School, a prominent university in New York City, seeks an experienced Assistant General Counsel to oversee the contract management process across the university. You will provide strategic transactional legal support on commercial agreements, compliance, real estate, international programs, IP, privacy, and research administration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of broad-based contracting experience, preferably in a university setting.
• Experience or interest in information security, intellectual property, privacy, or research administration.
• Ability to manage high-volume contracts and adapt to changing priorities.
• Admission to practice in good standing in New York; strong drafting and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the university-wide contract management process, drafting, reviewing, editing, and negotiating a broad spectrum of agreements.
• Serve as lead policy advisor for the Office of the General Counsel on institutional policy development and compliance oversight.
• Advise on legal aspects of international agreements and programs, MOUs, and mobility arrangements for faculty and students.
• Support real estate transactions, leases, and facilities-related matters; manage grants and sponsored research compliance.
• Collaborate with Provost’s Office, Finance, Research, and Facilities to balance risk and institutional goals.
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda; stay current on higher education law developments.
