Job summary

The New School is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to oversee the university-wide contract management process and provide strategic legal advice across compliance, risk, real estate, international programs, IP, privacy, research administration, and governance.

The role targets a transactional generalist with 5+ years in contracting, offering the chance to shape university policy and work with diverse partners on complex agreements.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to practice in New York.
• 5+ years of broad-based contracting experience, preferably in a university setting.
• Experience with drafting, reviewing, negotiating and editing commercial contracts.

Responsibilities

• Oversee university-wide contract management, drafting and negotiating a broad spectrum of agreements.
• Serve as lead policy counsel for institutional policy development and compliance oversight.
• Advise on legal aspects of international agreements and programs, MOUs, and mobility arrangements.
• Manage or assist with real estate transactions, leases, and facilities matters.
• Support grants and sponsored research compliance with federal requirements; coordinate across university offices.
