Job summary

The New School in New York City is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to oversee university-wide contract management, advising on a broad range of legal matters including compliance, risk management, real estate, international programs, IP, privacy, and governance.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will lead negotiations, draft agreements, and collaborate across divisions to manage risk and uphold university policies in a dynamic higher‑education environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of broad-based contracting experience.
• JD from ABA-accredited school; NY Bar in good standing.
• Experience with international programs, IP, privacy, and compliance.
• High-volume contract management in a university setting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee university-wide contract management including drafting and negotiations.
• Lead policy development and ensure enforceable institutional policies.
• Advise on international agreements, MOUs, and faculty mobility.
• Assist with real estate transactions, leases, and facilities matters.
• Support grants and sponsored research compliance.
• Collaborate with Provost, Finance, Research, and Facilities.
• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda.
