Job summary

California State University, Monterey Bay is seeking an experienced University Controller to lead the campus's core financial functions, ensure accuracy, and drive continuous process improvements. You will oversee general accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting while coordinating audits and internal controls across the university.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related field AND seven years of progressively responsible accounting management experience.
• Experience supervising professional and managerial staff in a higher education or nonprofit setting.
• Strong knowledge of GASB/GAAP principles and financial reporting requirements.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and implement process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Oversee campus accounting, financial reporting, and compliance functions.
• Manage year‑end close, audits, and internal controls with external auditors.
• Direct general accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting activities.
• Provide policy guidance and training on financial operations to campus departments.
