Job summary

CSU Monterey Bay seeks an University Controller to lead the university’s core financial, transactional, and compliance functions. The role focuses on modernizing operations, driving enterprise change, and delivering accurate financial reporting to university leadership.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related field and seven years of progressively responsible accounting management experience.
• At least three years of supervisory experience in higher education or non-profit settings.
• Preferred: California CPA license; advanced degree in Accounting/Tax/Business Administration.

Responsibilities

• Meet CSU accounting requirements to record and report financial transactions and oversee campus financial statements.
• Supervise the MPP, lead, and other personnel in accounting and financial reporting; build a strong, efficient team.
• Direct year-end GAAP financial statements, work papers, external audits, and close activities.
• Oversee maintenance of the campus finance systems and reconciliation of accounts.
• Ensure compliance with GASB/GAAP, regulations, policies, and mandates.
• Prepare and distribute campus financial reports for various funds and entities.
• Develop and implement policies for various funds and new programs; drive process improvements.
