Job summary

01 Salinas Valley Health Medical Center is seeking a Shift Supervisor for the 4M Ortho Neuro Spine area. This role leads, plans, and evaluates departmental operations per shift, reporting to the Clinical Director and promoting patient flow, teamwork, and policy adherence.

The position requires a BSN (or progress toward it) with a CA RN license and BLS status; MSN is preferred. Candidates should have acute care experience and Magnet-eligible certification within a year.

Qualifications

  • Education: BSN required or in progress with commitment to obtain within four years of hire or transfer date; MSN preferred.
  • Licensure: California RN license and BLS/Healthcare Provider status per American Heart Association.
  • Within 1 year, obtain ANCC Magnet Recognition Program‑eligible certification.

Shift Supervisor – 4M Ortho Neuro Spine

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading, planning, organizing and evaluating the timely, effective and efficient delivery of the department’s operations on a shift‑by‑shift basis. The role is accountable to the Clinical Director and functions as a role model, promoting patient flow initiatives, teamwork, and the consistent application of hospital policies and procedures.

Primary Duties
  • Provides leadership and direction to staff in assigned clinical area(s).
  • Facilitates patient flow initiatives to ensure efficient management of admissions, discharges and transfers.
  • Maintains a standard for appropriate professional behavior and promotes a positive working environment.
  • Incorporates operational information, systems and procedures to promote the highest possible standard of patient care and customer service utilizing available resources.
  • Reviews all aspects of corporate compliance as it relates to the assigned clinical area(s).
  • Assists in maintaining a high level of satisfaction for patient, family and/or visitor experiences.
  • Develops strong, collaborative relationships with clinical staff, physicians, peers and other key individuals across the hospital.
  • Facilitates processes and strategies outlined by the Patient Experience Team to enhance the patients perception of care.
  • Models exemplary leadership behavior aligned with the patient experience vision and values.
  • Manages performance of staff, including coaching and progressive discipline.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required or in progress with commitment to obtain within four (4) years from hire or transfer date. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Licensure: Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license and current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association.
  • Maintains department required licenses/certifications. Minimum one ANCC Magnet Recognition Program‑eligible certification with a one‑year window to obtain.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Minimum of two years of effective clinical experience in an acute care hospital.
  • Substantial knowledge of current nursing principles, theories and practices, laws, regulations and hospital guidelines pertaining to professional nursing care.
  • Knowledge of principles of CQI and ability to apply PDSA to improve unit work.
  • Ability to promote effective collaboration and teamwork among multidisciplinary individuals.
Specific Duties and Interpersonal Skills
  • Serves as a resource and role model regarding current nursing theory and trends.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing to diverse groups and individuals.
  • Works effectively with administration, employees and medical staff.
  • Identifies and analyzes complex departmental (and patient care) issues.
  • Makes independent decisions and provides counsel and advice to Administration, Director, employees and medical staff.
  • Exercises good judgment and tact in providing leadership, guidance and assistance.
Pay

Hourly rate ranges from $79.87 to $99.84.
