ClearSky Health is seeking a Unit Secretary to provide clerical and non-professional services on a nursing unit. This PRN position supports daily operations, answers calls, maintains records, and ensures safety and compliance across departments.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, and preferred experience in a health care setting. You will work under hospital guidelines, embody our values, and support patient care environments.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of clerical or administrative assistant experience preferred.
  • Two years’ experience in health care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support for all employees within an assigned nursing unit.
  • Performs administrative activities in compliance with all regulations.
  • Maintains and updates paperwork such as patient records, charts, discharge orders, etc.
  • Answers the telephone, determines the nature of the call and relays information within the Hospital as necessary.
  • Relays patient requests to appropriate personnel and gives directions to visitors, guests, patients, doctors, and others.
  • Ensures timeliness of laboratory, radiology and other tests ordered for patients.
  • Maintains and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
  • Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Assesses safety risks and implements precautions.
  • Complies with safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance per schedule.
  • Completes required trainings.
  • Performs other duties to support organization effectiveness.

Job description

The Unit Secretary performs clerical and non-professional services necessary in maintaining the smooth day to day operation of the nursing unit; assists in maintenance of safe and clean environment. This position must integrate company values into daily practice. This is a PRN position, working as needed.

Essential Functions
  • Provides administrative support for all employees within an assigned nursing unit.
  • Performs administrative activities in compliance with all regulations.
  • Maintains and updates paperwork such as patient records, charts, discharge orders, etc.
  • Answers the telephone, determines the nature of the call and appropriately relays information within the Hospital as necessary, and answers call lights from nurse's stations.
  • Relays patient requests to appropriate personnel and gives directions/information to visitors, guests, patients/residents, doctors, sales representatives, etc.
  • Ensures timeliness of laboratory, radiology and other tests ordered for the patients.
  • Maintains and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
  • Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions.
  • Complies with appropriate and approved safety and Infection Prevention standards.
  • Maintains regular attendance in keeping with assigned work schedule.
  • Completed required trainings, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support overall effectiveness of the organization.
Minimum Job Requirements

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of clerical or administrative assistant experience preferred.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in health care setting preferred.
Required Licenses, Certifications, and/or Documentation

Must maintain acceptable driving record, current driver’s license, and insurability.

  • Demonstrates general computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift
  • A significant amount of standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.
  • Both gross and precise motor functions.
  • Lifting/exerting of up to 25 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation of care.
  • Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
