Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous hospital, healthcare, or medical office experience preferred.
  • Previous clerical, customer service, or healthcare experience preferred; fast-paced environment with multiple priorities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephones, patient call lights, and direct communications appropriately.
  • Assist nursing staff by processing clerical tasks and maintaining patient records.
  • Coordinate communication with physicians, transfer centers, and ancillary departments as directed.
  • Prepare and organize patient charts and transfer documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and hospital information.
  • Assist with department supply management and restocking.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of hospital emergency codes and procedures.
  • Support a positive patient care environment through professional customer service and teamwork.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness activities and departmental training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Emergency Department operations.

NATURE OF WORKThe Emergency Department Unit Secretary provides essential clerical, communication, and administrative support to the Emergency Department team to ensure efficient patient flow and high quality patient care. This position serves as a central point of coordination for patients, families, physicians, nurses, and ancillary departments by managing patient registration, processing physician orders, maintaining medical records, facilitating communication, and supporting departmental operations.
