Job summary

Overland Park Regional Medical Center is seeking a Unit Secretary for the Ortho Spine Specialty. You will handle daily clerical operations on the nursing unit, including transcription of physicians' orders, receptionist duties, and managing supplies and equipment.

The role serves adolescent to geriatric patients with supervision from the Director or Manager and requires weekend and holiday coverage as part of the schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Excellent interpersonal skills required.
• Basic computer/keyboard skills preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple functions preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• No experience required.

Responsibilities

• Operate the daily clerical functions of the nursing unit under supervision, including transcription of orders, receptionist duties, and supplies/equipment maintenance.
• Provide care for adolescent (12–18), adult (18–64), and geriatric (65+) patients as assigned.
• Support unit operations and communication on the nursing unit.

Job Summary And Qualifications

What you will do in this role:

• Under direct supervision of the Director or Manager the unit secretary is responsible and accountable for the daily clerical operations of the nursing unit, including transcription of physicians' orders, performing receptionist duties and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• The Unit Secretary provides care for the adolescent patient 12-18 years of age, adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.

What Qualifications you will need:

• High school diploma, or equivalent required
• Excellent interpersonal skills required.
• Basic computer or keyboard skills preferred.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple functions preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• No experience required.
• Public contact and clerical experience (e.g. receptionist, customer service, admitting clerk) preferred.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification required upon hire.
• Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and multi-line phone preferred.
