Job summary

Lake Huron Medical Center in Port Huron, MI, seeks a Per Diem Unit Secretary for the Emergency Room. The role supports physicians and nursing staff by handling communications, clerical tasks, and patient records.

Transcribes orders when CPOE/EMR is unavailable, prepares patient charts, orders supplies, and assists with indirect patient care while ensuring accurate documentation and smooth department operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required for all new hires.
• Medical terminology knowledge preferred.
• Current BLS certification within 6 months of hire and maintained.
• Experience using computers for word processing and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Transcribes physician orders from records when CPOE/EMR is unavailable with proper signatures.
• Prepares and maintains patient charts and necessary forms daily.
• Orders supplies for the unit and assists with indirect patient care.
• Facilitates communication within the department and with nursing staff.

Responsibilities

The Unit Secretary is directly accountable to the Director of Emergency Room, and indirectly to the Charge Nurse, and / or House Supervisor. The Unit Secretary is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. Facilitates the communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders from records (in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system) with notation and signature by nursing staff. Prepares and complies records on the Emergency Room. Orders supplies for the unit, prepares and completes each patients chart for necessary forms needed on a daily basis. Able to assist nursing staff for duties involving indirect patient care.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. High School Diploma or Equivalent or relevant experience required for all new hires, effective April 2014.

2. Medical terminology preferred.

3. Current BLS certificate within 6 months of hire and maintain current.

4. Experience using computers for word processing, database management preferred.
