Job summary

Children’s Minnesota’s Level III NICU at Mercy is a 16-bed unit where families are supported while babies receive high-level care. The Unit Operations Coordinator delivers exemplary customer service to families, staff and visitors, answers questions, and coordinates deliveries and directions in person or by phone.

You will be the key liaison to other departments, provide administrative support for the unit, and act as the technology resource. The role may float to other departments as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred.
  • 1 year of experience in a patient care setting preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to coach others on hospital technology systems.
  • Basic medical terminology knowledge.
  • Clear English reading, writing and speaking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Answer questions warmly, promptly and correctly.
  • Arrange deliveries to patient rooms and direct visitors.
  • Maintain a safe, welcoming environment at all times.

Department Overview

The Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Coon Rapids is a 16-bed, 12-room unit and is part of the Mother Baby Center at Mercy with Children's Minnesota. The NICU team cares for babies who are 28 weeks and older and require a higher level of care than the newborn nursery provides, as well as full-term babies who may be sick, have an anomaly, needing respiratory support. We care for these babies and their families and provide education to help them learn how to care for their baby at home. Our team of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, neonatologists and nurse practitioners work together to provide a supportive and nurturing environment for the patients, families and staff. Position Summary

The Unit Operations Coordinator is a pivotal front line individual who provides exemplary customer service to families, staff, providers and visitors, both in-person and by phone. Answer questions, warmly, promptly, and correctly, and problem solve as needed. Provides first response to phone calls that come into the units, arranges for deliveries to patients rooms, directs visitors to their destinations, and maintains a safe, welcoming environment at all times, modeling service excellence to the organization. This individual is the key liaison to other departments and provides other disciplines with the tools for their jobs. The Unit Operations Coordinator supports patient care on the unit(s) and provides overall administrative support for the unit. This individual is also the unit(s) technology resource.

This role may be required to float to other hospital departments as needed based on need.

Education/Work Experience

  • High school diploma preferred
  • 1-year of experience in a patient care setting preferred

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee’s scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
