Job summary

LionStone Care is seeking a Unit Manager – RN to lead nursing operations at a Lima, OH facility. You will supervise RNs/LPNs/CNAs, develop care plans, ensure regulatory compliance, and collaborate with physicians, therapists, and social workers to provide holistic resident care.

Job Overview

The Unit Manager – RN oversees nursing operations and provides leadership for a designated unit within a healthcare, long‑term care, or assisted living facility. This role involves managing nursing staff, ensuring high‑quality patient care, creating and implementing individualized care plans, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. The unit manager collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure the physical, emotional, and psychosocial well‑being of all residents.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Supervision
  • Supervise and manage nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs), ensuring high‑quality care.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and offer coaching and professional development.
  • Create staff schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for each shift while managing time‑off requests and overtime.
  • Address staffing issues, such as call‑offs, and provide timely solutions to ensure proper coverage and care delivery.
Patient Care and Management
  • Oversee the care of residents, ensuring individualized, comprehensive care per care plan.
  • Conduct assessments of residents' conditions and update care plans accordingly.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams—including physicians, therapists, and social workers—to ensure coordinated care.
  • Provide direct nursing care when necessary, such as administering medications, treatments, and performing clinical procedures.
Care Plan Development and Implementation
  • Develop and update care plans based on resident assessments, aligning with medical, emotional, and psychological needs.
  • Participate in resident care conferences, advocating for appropriate care interventions.
  • Ensure staff follow care plans, delivering services in a timely, respectful, and safe manner.
Compliance and Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, nursing care standards, infection control protocols, and resident rights.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation in the electronic health record system.
  • Conduct regular audits of clinical documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Prepare for and participate in facility inspections, surveys, and audits, implementing corrective actions when needed.
Quality Assurance and Improvement
  • Monitor and assess the quality of care, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective measures.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, including infection control, fall prevention, and pressure sore management.
  • Review resident outcomes, care processes, and staff performance, making recommendations for improvement.
Resident and Family Relations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for residents and families regarding care plans, health status updates, and concerns.
  • Address resident and family concerns promptly and professionally, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Respect residents' dignity, privacy, and personal preferences, treating them with compassion and professionalism.
Collaboration and Communication
  • Collaborate with department heads and healthcare professionals to ensure holistic resident care.
  • Communicate regularly with staff, residents, and families about changes in care plans, treatments, or health status.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care meetings, care planning sessions, and quality assurance discussions.
Qualifications
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing).
Licensure
  • Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Experience
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long‑term care or healthcare, with at least 1 year in a leadership or management role.
Skills
  • Strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, care planning, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
