Job summary

The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) in New York City is seeking a Unit Head to lead the database administration for the Asset Inventory Management System (AIMS). Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
• Four years of relevant experience in database administration or software engineering, or a master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field.
• Strong SQL Server and relational database experience in production environments.
• Clear written communication and documentation discipline for stakeholders.
• Familiarity with application development concepts and collaboration with software developers.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access.

Responsibilities

• Administer the AIMS SQL Server database to support reliable day-to-day operations and required outputs.
• Create and maintain clear documentation for core database operations, including runbooks and recovery steps.
• Partner with central IT on security and operational controls, including access provisioning and backup/restore validation.
• Support required AIMS deliverables and stakeholder requests by troubleshooting issues and maintaining data quality checks.
• Improve reliability and reduce manual effort by designing and optimizing database structures and queries, and by implementing automation.
• Stay current on relevant database and data reliability practices and propose improvements.
