Job summary

ICL in New York City is seeking an Unit Counselor to support shelter residents with care, socialization, crisis intervention, and facility monitoring across shelter programs. You will conduct orientation, communicate processes, provide social support and motivational interviewing, assist with meals and transportation, document interactions, and participate in required trainings.

The role is onsite with a 12:00pm–8:30pm schedule, Thursday through Monday, and requires a high school diploma and

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: Some experience in a human services setting.
• Certifications/Licenses: Must obtain a food handlers certificate within 45 days of hire (Hylan Shelter only).
• Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.
• Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
• Work Location Requirement: Onsite
• Schedule: 12:00pm-8:30pm Thursday-Monday

Responsibilities

• Participate in or conduct orientation for new residents.
• Communicate program processes and activities to residents.
• Provide social support and motivational interviewing interventions.
• Provide transportation for residents to appointments as needed.
• Assist with meal-related activities including warming, serving, and cleanup.
• Document neighborhood activities and resident interactions.
• Participate in crisis intervention as needed.
• Attend management, supervision, and required training meetings.
• Report serious incidents and complete required incident documentation.
• Conduct hourly rounds and ensure resident wellbeing.
• Arrive to work on time and as scheduled.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

About the Role
