Job summary

ICL is seeking a Unit Counselor for our New York shelter programs to support residents with care, socialization, crisis intervention, and active facility monitoring. This role requires engagement in orientation, communication of processes, and coordination of transportation and meals as part of daily routines.

You will conduct rounds, document interactions, and participate in training meetings, ensuring resident wellbeing and safety in a structured overnight schedule.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Some experience in a human services setting.
• Must obtain a food handlers certificate within 45 days.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.
• Authorized to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities

• Participate in or conduct orientation for new residents.
• Communicate program processes and activities to residents.
• Provide social support and motivational interviewing interventions.
• Provide transportation for residents to appointments as needed.
• Assist with meal-related activities including warming, serving, and cleanup.
• Document neighborhood activities and resident interactions.
• Participate in crisis intervention as needed.
• Attend management, supervision, and required training meetings.
• Report serious incidents and complete required incident documentation.
• Conduct hourly rounds and ensure resident wellbeing.

Education:

Experience:

Certifications/Licenses:

• Must obtain a food handlers certificate within 45 days of hire (Hylan Shelter only).
• Valid NYS Driver’s License preferred.

Work Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Location Requirement: Onsite

Schedule: 12:00am - 8:30am Friday - Tuesday

Compensation: $19.8077

About the Role
