Job summary

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a Unit Coordinator to support patient flow and administrative operations on a 0.6 FTE schedule (24 hours per week). The role includes chart management, operating communications systems, and assisting with admission, transfer, and discharge tasks.

You will help maintain unit supplies, coordinate medication transport, and respond to emergencies by initiating Code Blue or Medical Assist as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of an approved unit coordinator or clerk course is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS-Health Care Provider) is required.
  • Previous health care experience is preferred.
  • Basic computer and technology skills are required.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and maintains patient charts and medical records.
  • Operates communication systems including telephone, paging system, pneumatic tube, and other advanced communication technology devices.
  • Assists with greeting, admission, registration, transfer, transport, and/or discharge of patients as assigned.
  • Maintains unit and office supplies, ordering and stocking as needed. Ensures unit areas and rooms are maintained according to regulatory standards.
  • Acts as a preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.
  • Coordinates the transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners or from tube system to secured medication storage room.
  • Initiates Code Blue/Medical Assist/ACT in emergency situations and ensures the communication of all required information to the appropriate staff.

Essential Functions
