Position: Unit Coordinator

Department: Critical Care Unit

Schedule: 32 Hours, 7a–3p, Weekend Rotations

Position Summary

Provide technical assistance to the nursing staff and perform a variety of computer, clerical, scheduling, and supply functions necessary for the operation of the unit. Duties include greeting visitors, patients, and staff; answering calls promptly and courteously; maintaining positive communications with other departments; and making phone calls for physician consults and other assistance.

Responsibilities
  • Assist staff by running errands, delivering specimens and paperwork, and checking mail.
  • Keep nurses informed of incoming reports, new orders, and other messages.
  • Transcribe physician and nursing orders accurately and promptly.
  • Place appropriate orders onto the nursing Carded.
  • Assemble, label, and organize the medical record for patient admissions and retrieve previous records as needed.
  • Enter orders into the EMR system and fax medication orders to pharmacy.
  • Identify dangerous abbreviations and contact physicians for clarification.
  • Note the time called on the physician order sheet margin.
  • Prepare charts for discharge and ensure completeness; compile all discharge paperwork; enter discharges into computer.
  • Notify the administrative manager of unit activities such as changes in patient condition.
  • Accurately file test results in a timely manner and copy documents as requested.
  • Increase knowledge and use of the hospital computer system as new programs are developed.
  • Maintain and order clerical supplies for the unit as directed by the nurse manager.
  • Report broken equipment, enter work orders into Epic, and contact external vendors regarding special equipment.
  • Give adequate notice of absenteeism or tardiness and maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the dress code.
  • Ask appropriate questions within the job description and perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: Minimum one year of clerical experience
  • Skills: Effective verbal and written communication; computer proficiency; knowledge of medical terminology
Compensation

$17.50–$26.00 per hour. Compensation is based on education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to the position. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) savings match, earned time cash out, paid time off, and career advancement opportunities.
