Position: Unit Coordinator
Department: Critical Care Unit
Schedule

32 Hours, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., weekend rotations

Position Summary

Provide technical assistance to the nursing staff and perform a variety of computer, clerical, scheduling, and supply functions necessary for the operation of the unit.

  • Receives and greets visitors, patients and staff; responds to questions and refers to authorized staff.
  • Answers telephone promptly and courteously; maintains positive communication with other departments; makes telephone calls to physicians, other departments (e.g., Information Systems), and informs physicians of admissions.
  • Assists staff by running errands, delivering specimens and paperwork, and checking mail.
  • Keeps nurses informed of incoming reports, new orders and other messages.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patients’ rights to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Transcribes physician and nursing orders accurately, neatly and timely; places appropriate orders onto the nursing card.
  • Assembles, labels and organizes the medical record for patient admissions.
  • Secures records from previous admissions as needed.
  • Accurately enters orders into the EMR system.
  • Fax medication orders to pharmacy; notes dangerous abbreviations and contacts physicians to clarify orders; notes time called in margin of physician order sheet.
  • Prepares chart for discharge and assures it is complete; compiles all discharge paperwork.
  • Enters discharges into the computer system.
  • Notifies the administrative manager of unit activities such as changes in patient conditions.
  • Accurately files test results in a timely manner.
  • Copies documents as requested for unit personnel.
  • Increases knowledge and use of the hospital computer system as new programs are developed.
  • Maintains and orders clerical supplies for the unit as directed by the nurse manager.
  • Reports broken equipment, enters work orders into Epic, and calls outside vendors regarding special equipment.
  • Reports to work promptly and begins duties on time.
  • Gives adequate notice of absenteeism or tardiness.
  • Appearance is professional in accordance with the dress code.
  • Asks appropriate questions within the job description if encountering an unfamiliar circumstance.
  • Performs work of equal skill, effort, and responsibility as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Minimum one-year clerical experience.
  • Knowledge & Skills: Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; computer skills required; knowledge of medical terminology required.
Compensation

Range: $17.50 – $26.00 per hour.

This range is an estimate based on minimum qualifications. Base pay is determined by factors such as education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
