Job description

Unit Coordinator Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure patients and families are attended to in a caring, attentive manner.
  2. Respond promptly to patient and family needs with professionalism and friendliness.
  3. Work cohesively as part of the Patient Care Team to ensure smooth unit operations.
  4. Greet patients and families, provide unit orientation, and respond to initial questions.
  5. Respond to individual patient/family needs, maintaining hospital service standards.
  6. Answer, coordinate, and manage all phone calls to the unit, including paging and requests from clinical staff.
  7. Manage all paperwork, including fax referrals, and maintain patient medical records neatly and accurately.
  8. Schedule diagnostic tests, appointments, and consults as directed by physicians or RNs, and arrange patient transport.
  9. Coordinate patient discharge logistics, including family notification, transportation, prescriptions, and follow-up appointments.
  10. Perform clerical duties related to patient admission, transfer, and discharge, ensuring all patient belongings and documentation accompany transfers.
  11. Prepare diet order sheets for approval by medical staff.
  12. Act as a liaison with ancillary services and other departments to resolve issues.
  13. Provide backup for patient transport duties, including escorting discharged patients and families.
  14. Monitor and ensure that Advance Care Directives are current and documented.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent required. Consideration may be given to students with appropriate judgment and qualifications.
  • 1-2 years of experience in medical or customer service settings preferred, but not required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based computer environments is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
