Job summary

Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH, seeks a Unit Coordinator to perform secretarial and clinical support tasks under RN direction. You will monitor patient charts, operate paging and pneumatic tube systems, and assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges.

CPR-certified candidates with basic computer skills are preferred. The role requires a High School Diploma and may prefer completion of a unit coordinator course; healthcare experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an approved unit coordinator or clerk course is preferred.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS for Health Care Provider) is required.
  • Healthcare experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong computer and technology skills are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain patient charts and medical records.
  • Operate communication systems including telephone, paging, and pneumatic tube.
  • Assist with greeting, admission, registration, transfer, transport, and discharge of patients.
  • Maintain unit and office supplies and stock as needed.
  • Ensure unit areas meet regulatory standards.
  • Serve as preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.
  • Coordinate transport of medications from Pharmacy to practitioners or storage.
  • Initiate emergency communications (Code Blue, Medical Assist) as needed.

7a-7:30p, every other weekend ONLY. No weekday shifts.

Job Description Summary:

Performs secretarial and environmental activities using current technology under the direction and supervision of RN.

Job Description:
Essential Functions:
  • Monitors and maintains patient charts and medical records.
  • Operates communication systems including but not limited to telephone, paging system, pneumatic tube, and other advanced communication technology devices.
  • Assists with greeting, admission, registration, transfer, transport, and/or discharge of patients as assigned.
  • Maintains unit and office supplies, ordering and stocking as needed.
  • Ensures unit areas and rooms are maintained according to regulatory standards.
  • Acts as a preceptor for orientation and training of other Unit Coordinator staff.
  • Coordinates the transport of non-controlled medications from Pharmacy to designated licensed healthcare practitioners or from tube system to secured medication storage room.
  • Initiates Code Blue/Medical Assist/ACT in emergency situations and ensures the communication of all required information to the appropriate staff.
Education Requirement:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Successful completion of an approved unit coordinator or clerk course, preferred.
Certifications:
  • Current CPR certification (BLS-Health Care Provider), required.
Skills:
  • Basic computer and technologyskills required.
  • Excellent customer service, verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience:

Previous health care experience, preferred.
