Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Mount Clemens, MI, is seeking a friendly Nursing Assistant to join the unit under RN supervision. You will perform patient care tasks, assist with daily living, monitor vital signs, and ensure patient safety and privacy in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Requirements include a High School diploma or equivalent, completion of a Nurse Aide training program (or equivalent experience), and current BLS certification. Weekend shifts and a full-time schedule are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of a Nurse Aide training program, OR 6 months experience as a Nursing Assistant in a healthcare facility, OR completion of fundamentals of nursing, if enrolled in a Nursing program.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross (ARC), or Canadian equivalent, is required before start date and valid at least 60 days beyond start date.

Responsibilities

• Performs purposeful hourly rounding including: Pain, Position, Personal needs, and Possessions.
• Promptly answers telephone/call lights in a polite manner and relays pertinent information to the appropriate staff.
• Assists nursing staff with patient care by making beds, giving baths, passing waters, feeding patients, providing oral care, accurate Intake & Output, assisting with mobilization/ambulation, daily weights, bedside glucose testing and obtaining vital signs.
• Greets patient/family upon arrival and assists in transportation of patients to and from other units and test areas.
• Ensures rooms and work areas are clean and tidy, equipment stored properly.

Under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse, performs the receptionist and secretarial duties on the unit assigned and meets the communication needs of the patient, family, departmental staff and medical staff. Supports the nursing staff by performing specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Assist and maintain a safe and clean work environment. Maintains patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and respects patient’s rights.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Greets patient/family upon arrival to the nursing unit and assists in the transportation of patients to and from other units and test areas
• Ensures all rooms and work areas are clean and tidy (e.g. patient rooms, clean utility, and soiled utility), IV poles, suction machines, commodes, and other equipment are cleaned and properly stored

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Successful completion of a Nurse Aide training program,OR 6 months experience as a Nursing Assistant in a Healthcare facility, OR completion of fundamentals of nursing, if enrolled in a Nursing program

Preferred:

Current State of Michigan CNA certification

Selected candidate will be required to work weekends 2 & 4 of the 28-day schedule, as well as the Holiday B rotation.
