Job summary

Guthrie in Sayre, PA, is seeking a Unit Assistant/Patient Experience Representative to support the Emergency Department. You will assist daily unit operations and focus on patient and family satisfaction while coordinating with nursing staff and other teams.

Key duties include hourly rounding, maintaining a safe, clean patient environment, updating whiteboards, answering calls promptly, and helping with comfort items for patients and families.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience with computers preferred.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Supports hourly rounding in the Emergency Department and waiting area.
  • R rounds on each ED patient at least hourly.
  • Ensures patient and family environment is clean and safe.
  • Updates whiteboards in patient rooms with key details.
  • Provides basic patient and family support, including comfort items.
  • Answers call bells and unit phones promptly.
  • Distributes snacks and beverages per nursing approval.

Position Summary

Provides general non-clinical support for patients in all areas of the Emergency Department, with a specific focus on patient and family satisfaction.

Experience
  • Education and experience with computers preferred

Licenses

Essential Functions
  1. Supports hourly rounding in the Main Emergency Department and waiting room as needed.
  2. Rounds on each Emergency Department patient at least hourly.
  3. Ensures the patient and family environment remains clean and safe.
  4. Supports completion of whiteboards in patient rooms, including:
  5. Date
  6. Nurse's first name
  7. EST caring for the patient
  8. Provider name (when known)
  9. Patient's preferred name
  10. Documents hourly rounding activities in Epic.
  11. Provides patient and family updates, with patient permission, in collaboration with nursing staff.
  12. Manages Comfort Care Menu services.
  13. Assists with placement of Emergency Department overflow patients into hospital beds when appropriate.
  14. Provides basic patient and family support, including:
  15. Warm blankets
  16. Pillows
  17. Snacks and beverages for family members
  18. Snacks and beverages for patients after approval from nursing staff
  19. Answers call bells promptly.
  20. Answers unit phone calls promptly.
  21. Returns equipment to designated locations.
Complies with Hospital and Nursing Department Policies and Procedures
  1. Supports the philosophy of the hospital and nursing department.
  2. Represents the hospital professionally and courteously to patients, families, and healthcare team members while demonstrating effective verbal and non-verbal communication.
  3. Promotes cost-effective patient care through:
  4. Proper use and care of equipment
  5. Appropriate use of supplies
  6. Accurate charging of supplies
  7. Completion of division-specific tasks
  8. Effective utilization of available resources
  9. Demonstrates initiative in completing assigned responsibilities and additional work as needed.
  10. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance service and patient care.
Other Duties
  1. Assists with the orientation of new personnel and serves as a role model for fellow employees.
  2. Demonstrates willingness to accept non-routine assignments when appropriate.
  3. Is authorized to access secured storage areas while performing essential job duties.
  4. Completes hand hygiene audits.
  5. Assists in stocking food pantry areas.
  6. Stocks supply areas.
  7. Serves as a communication liaison between patients and the healthcare team.
