Job summary

Guthrie is seeking an Emergency Services Technician II for the Emergency Department. You will provide direct patient care, transport, and support to patients, families, nurses, and providers in a high-volume ED.

Role includes phlebotomy, EKGs, POCT, and assisting with trauma activations; prior PCT/CNA experience and BLS are required or preferred. Competitive benefits and opportunities for advancement.

  • Two years of Patient Care Technician or CNA experience preferred.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Stocks and organizes ED supplies and equipment.
  • Transports patients within the ED and assists with mobility.
  • Measures and documents vital signs accurately.
  • Provides support to patients and families awaiting care or results.
  • Performs EKGs and POCT as ordered.
  • Assists during trauma activations and QA activities.
  • Performs hourly rounding with the ED RN.
  • May perform phlebotomy per orders.

Role Summary

The Emergency Services Technician II (ED Tech II) provides direct patient care and operational support within the Emergency Department. This role assists with patient care, diagnostic testing, patient transport, trauma support, and departmental operations while helping ensure an exceptional patient experience and efficient patient throughput.

Responsibilities
  • Stocks and organizes ED supplies and equipment including dietary supplies.
  • Transports patients into and out of the ED including assisting patients from private vehicles, moving patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or hospital bed.
  • Measures and documents vital signs accurately and timely.
  • Present in the ED waiting area providing support and information to patients and families awaiting care or test results.
  • Keeps Nurse First or Charge Nurse aware of patient or family changes or increased anxieties. Alerts RN to any patients expressing the desire or demonstrating behaviors concerning for leaving without being seen.
  • May perform phlebotomy as ordered by the provider or per Nursing Protocol orders.
  • Performs circulating role during trauma activations.
  • Performs POCT (and daily QI) and documents results; follows procedure for reporting critical results.
  • Performs EKGs as ordered by the provider or per Nursing Protocol orders.
  • Responds to call bells.
  • Assists patients as needed (e.g., ambulation, bed pans, comfort measures).
  • Performs hourly rounding in conjunction with the ED RN; documents same in the EHR.
  • Performs 1:1 suicide watch as requested.
  • Performs the sitter role as requested.
  • Identifies needed repairs to equipment or department and submits work orders for same.
  • Maintains pre-hospital equipment in an organized, clean manner and communicates with pre-hospital providers.
  • Participates in ED staff meetings and ED Shared Governance.
Other Duties
  • Performs clerical tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Other duties to support departmental operations as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • EMT or EMT-Paramedic certification preferred.
  • EKG Certification preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
Experience
  • Previous customer service or patient relations experience preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant experience preferred.
Skills

  • Frequently exposed to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases, and other healthcare-related hazards.
  • Frequently exposed to disagreeable sights, sounds, odors, and body waste.
  • Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including temperature variations while assisting patients entering and exiting vehicles.
  • Requires the ability to safely transport patients utilizing wheelchairs, stretchers, and hospital beds.
  • Must participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental shared governance activities.
  • Performs routine and repetitive duties in a fast-paced Emergency Department with occasional stress due to patient volume and departmental demands.
  • Other duties may be assigned to support Emergency Department operations.
