Enova (OnDeck, an Enova company) is seeking an Underwriting Manager to lead production quality and performance of small business loan decisioning in our Utah office. You will guide a team of Supervisors and Team Leads, shape operational strategy, and partner with Credit & Risk to ensure policy clarity.

Ideal candidates have 7+ years managing people in a fintech lending environment, strong SMB credit skills, and a proven track record of developing leaders.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of underwriting experience in small business or commercial lending.
• 7+ years managing people, with experience overseeing managers or team leads.
• Strong SMB credit fundamentals; cash flow analysis and risk assessment.
• Experience developing leaders: setting expectations and giving feedback.
• Familiarity with automated decisioning and high-volume, tech-enabled lending environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Underwriting Supervisors and Team Leads; develop front-line managers.
• Establish workflows, quality standards, and throughput targets across pods.
• Serve as senior escalation point for high-complexity decisions with Credit & Risk.
• Collaborate with Sales, Product, Compliance, and Operations to optimize the borrower experience.
• Plan capacity, scheduling, and talent development for the Utah site.
• Drive alignment of underwriting with policy and regulatory requirements.

We are looking for an Underwriting Manager to oversee the production, quality, and performance of our small business loan decisioning. In this role, you will lead a team of Underwriting Supervisors and Team Leads, focusing on developing these front-line managers, setting operational strategy, and driving high-level team performance. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Underwriting, this position is ideal for an experienced leader ready to scale their impact by managing through others.

What You’ll Do

• Utah Office Culture & Site Leadership: Serve as the culture champion and leader for the Utah office, fostering a collaborative, high-energy environment, driving local employee engagement, and building a strong sense of community across teams.
• Leadership Development & Coaching: Lead, coach, and develop a team of Underwriting Supervisors and Team Leads; empower your front-line managers to effectively drive their respective pods of production underwriters.
• Operational Strategy & Execution: Establish consistent workflows, quality standards, and throughput targets across all pods, translating high-level organizational strategy into clear daily execution.
• Risk & Escalations: Serve as the senior escalation point for high-complexity decisions exceeding direct report authority, partnering closely with Credit & Risk to ensure policy clarity and alignment.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside Sales, Product, Compliance, and Operations to streamline the borrower experience and optimize automated/manual decisioning intersections.
• Workforce Planning & Bench Building: Own capacity modeling, scheduling, and talent acquisition to build a resilient leadership pipeline for the growing Utah site.

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years of underwriting experience in small business or commercial lending
• 7+ years managing people, with at least some experience managing other managers or team leads
• Strong command of SMB credit fundamentals; cash flow analysis, financial statement review, and risk assessment
• Proven ability to develop leaders: setting clear expectations, giving direct feedback, and building capability over time
• Has an operational mindset; comfortable with metrics, process design, and driving accountability at scale
• Strong communicator who can translate between frontline execution and senior leadership expectations
• Experience working in a high-volume, technology-enabled lending environment
• Background in fintech or online lending platforms is preferred
• Familiarity with automated decisioning and where manual underwriting intersects with it
• Exposure to fair lending or SMB-specific compliance requirements (Reg B, etc.)

Compensation

The budgeted annual salary range for this position is $77,000 to $115,000. Actual annual salary will be determined based on qualifications, skills, experience, and level assessed during the hiring process and may fall outside of the range shown. Additional compensation for this role may include a bonus and restricted stock units. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in Company benefits, described in more detail here.
