Selective Insurance in Short Hills, NJ, invites college students to join its Ignite Internship program for summer 2027. This 11-week, full-time experience offers a glimpse into insurance and touches on the corporate underwriting function.

As an Underwriting Intern, you’ll help support growth and profitability goals across SBU segments, developing business acumen through real projects, teamwork, and exposure to leadership. Hybrid work is available near NJ locations.

Qualifications

Must be a current college student to qualify.
Demonstrate an interest in learning about the insurance industry.
Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
Experience with Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Internet Explorer.
College credit can be earned depending on your institution’s requirements.
High School Diploma required. Ideal internship candidates will be full-time undergraduate college Juniors or Seniors, with the ability to perform at a professional level.

Responsibilities

Participate in engaging projects and assignments that support our SBU’s with focus on specific industry groups.
Research, analyze and recommend a course of action for those projects which may involve the possible expansion of our customer base and/or cutting-edge product offerings to meet today’s challenges.
Use analytical, marketing, and presentation skills to provide detailed analysis, research, and evaluation of available underwriting information and product offerings for projects that support both the SBU’s and our regional field offices.
