Job summary

Burns & Wilcox, the flagship organization of the H.W. Kaufman Group, offers a 12-week paid summer internship in the specialty insurance industry. The program develops business acumen, communication, and leadership through hands-on, real-world experience across underwriting teams.

The intern will work 40 hours per week on-site in Chicago, gaining exposure to commercial, personal or professional lines insurance and collaborating with executive leadership and other interns.

Qualifications

• Enrolled as an undergraduate pursuing a degree in Risk Management and Insurance (strongly preferred), Business, Finance, or another relevant field
• Expected graduation December 2027 or May 2028
• Previous internship experience is preferred
• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Responsibilities

• Participate in agent marketing calls and attend client meetings
• Engage in insurance policy renewals
• Update new business and renewals in Microsoft Excel
• Determine which program or market best meets the needs of agency clients
• Communicating loss notices and policy changes
• Work alongside senior leaders on special projects

Education

Undergraduate student pursuing Risk Management and Insurance or related field
