Job summary

Mid-Continent Group in Tulsa, OK is offering an Underwriting Internship starting May through Summer 2027 with a hybrid schedule. The program gives interns a full view of the underwriting department and its interaction with other functions, potentially leading to a career in insurance.

Interns will gain experience by evaluating risk, researching trends, and assisting in reports while using underwriting tools. A supportive path with mentorship and networking is provided.

Qualifications

• GPA 3.5 preferred, 3.0 minimum.
• Proven leadership through work, campus activities or internships.
• Strong communication, analytical, planning and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with potential for virtual aspects of work.
• Current bachelor’s degree student in a wide range of majors; Insurance & Risk Management encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Assist underwriters in evaluating and analyzing risk for GL policies.
• Research industry trends, market conditions and competitor analysis.

• Participate in team meetings and contribute to risk discussions.

Mid-Continent Group is accepting resumes for Underwriting Internship candidates starting employment in May through the summer of 2027 with a hybrid work schedule in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Underwriting Internship program includes a combination of activities aimed at giving the intern a full understanding of the Underwriting department and how they interact with other functions within the organization.

The program is a potential pathway to a career in insurance.

Internships typically consist of a 10-week period over the summer.

Responsibilities

Within the Underwriting team, interns will obtain experience in a variety of underwriting functions, including evaluating and analyzing risk of applicants, insureds, and books of business.

• Assist underwriters in evaluating and analyzing risk for commercial general liability insurance policies.
• Conduct research on industry trends, market conditions, and competitor analysis.
• Support the preparation of underwriting reports and documentation.
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions on risk assessment and policy development.
• Collaborate with various departments to gather necessary information for underwriting decisions.
• Assist in the review and processing of insurance applications and renewals.
• Learn and utilize underwriting software and tools to support daily tasks.

Qualifications

• 3.5 preferred GPA, with a 3.0 minimum GPA for consideration
• Proven leadership skills through work experience (prior internship/co-ops a plus), campus involvement, and/or extracurricular activities
• Superior communication, analytical, planning, and organizing skills
• Self-motivated, as the nature of the internship may have virtual aspects
• Current student in a bachelor’s degree program in a wide range of majors, with Insurance & Risk Management students encouraged to apply May 2028-2029 graduate preferred but not required
