Job summary

Travelers offers a year-long underwriting trainee program designed to teach underwriting philosophy, product strategies, negotiation, and relationship building. Trainees will learn through structured training sessions and hands-on renewal and new business development under supervision.

As knowledge grows, responsibilities increase toward individual accounts and territory development, with ongoing coaching and observation of underwriting discussions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or one year of applicable business experience.

Responsibilities

• Underwrites and assesses risk for less complex accounts under direct supervision.
• Establishes relationships with customers, agents and brokers.
• Develops consultative sales and marketing skills through interactions with agents/brokers and coaching from manager.
• Develops negotiation skills through interactions with agents/brokers and coaching from manager.
• Plans and organizes to manage a desk and a territory.
• Collaborates with others to seek enterprise-wide solutions to business problems.
• Shows initiative for personal development through underwriting and related opportunities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
