Underwrites loans in accordance with Company and Investor guidelines following company’s policies and procedures under general supervision. Makes sound underwriting decisions and ensures that all decisions meet legal and policy requirements. Provides workflow direction and assistance to junior level staff as needed. Performs all duties in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures, all US state and federal laws and regulations, where the company operates. The target pay range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000 per year.
What you’ll do:
- Performs a thorough analysis to ensure the quality of each loan and to determine compliance with Company and Investor guidelines.
- Provides workflow direction, training, and assistance to junior staff as needed.
- Analyzes collateral to ensure property meets investor guidelines and appraisal quality standards.
- Applies and interprets company underwriting guidelines to make sound credit decisions.
- Completes credit analysis, income analysis, property analysis, and verifies consistency of loan file information.
- Identifies risk factors within each loan, utilizing resources and documentation to detect red flags and resolve inconsistencies.
- Reviews and evaluates credit information on mortgage loan documents for acceptability.
- Determines conditions, stipulations, or pre-funding requirements and clears them upon completion.
- Communicates with clients, sales, and operations teams to resolve issues.
- Assists departmental support staff as needed.
- Responds to post-closing credit exceptions from investors and auditors.
- Maintains knowledge of investor guidelines, updates, and trends relevant to underwriting.
- Performs second signature reviews on files underwritten by junior staff within authority limits.
What you’ll need:
- Thorough knowledge of mortgage loan underwriting.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Five+ years of FHA mortgage underwriting experience.
- Experience with paperless loan origination systems preferred.
- FHA Direct Endorsement and/or VA SAR designations highly preferred.
- DU and LP experience required.
