Job summary

Starr, a global leader in commercial insurance, seeks an experienced Underwriter for the Financial Institutions team in the New York region. You will underwrite new and renewal business, build broker and client relationships, and apply sound underwriting judgment to FI risks.

Responsibilities include evaluating D&O, EPL, FID, E&O, and Crime & Fidelity risks, maintaining files, and collaborating with partners to drive profitable growth. 1–3+ years in underwriting preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or related field.
• 1-3+ years of direct underwriting experience in financial institutions or financial lines.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Proficiency in relevant underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.

• Maintain comprehensive file documentation per procedures.

The Financial Institutions team is seeking an experienced Underwriter to join our team and play a key role in building and managing a profitable financial institutions portfolio. This position will be responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, developing strong broker and client relationships, and applying sound underwriting judgement to financial institutions risks. This role will report to the regional leardership and will be based in our New York Region office.

Key Responsibilities

• Solicit, evaluate, and underwrite new and renewal D&O,EPL,FID, E&O, and Crime & Fidelity property business from a diverse range of retail production sources.
• Analyze submitted documentation in accordance with company underwriting standards and guidelines; request additional information when necessary.
• Within assigned underwriting authority, prepare and present quotation terms and conditions to brokers and clients.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal business partners to drive profitable portfolio growth.
• For risks outside authority, create written referrals and submit with recommendations to appropriate approval authority.
• Maintain comprehensive file documentation as per company procedures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or related field.
• 1-3+ years of direct underwriting experience, preferably in financial institutions or financial lines
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and with external partners.
• Interest in ongoing professional growth and consideration for future management opportunities.
• Proficiency in relevant underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.

Estimated salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000.
