Job summary

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey is seeking an entry-level Underwriting Support professional to assist with data collection, account setup, rating, quotes and binders, and policy issuance under supervision.

You will support underwriters with reports, monitor workflow, and help ensure accurate underwriting while developing foundational skills in analysis and problem-solving.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years experience in an operational role.
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Healthcare knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support for assigned new and renewal accounts, including data collection, setup, rating, producing quotes and binders, issuing policies and endorsements.
• Assist in ensuring underwriting process is handled efficiently and accurately, provide reports and analysis to underwriters.
• Coordinate underwriters and internal partners to resolve service needs and support workflow execution.
• Identify issues early and escalate when appropriate to underwriting partners.
• Monitor underwriting funnel performance, renewals, quote volume and communicate drivers behind trends.

About the Role

Under direct supervision, support for assigned new and renewal accounts. Including but not limited to collecting data, account setup, rating, producing quotes and binders, issuing policies and endorsements. Proactively assist in ensuring the underwriting process is handled efficiently and accurately. Provide Underwriters with required reports and analysis. This is an entry-level position responsible for completing routine assignments while developing foundational skills and gaining experience in analysis and problem-solving.

What You'll Do

• Provide operational product development for Stop Loss, Individual, Jumbo, Public and National Market Lines, ensuring accurate, timely policy service.
• Coordinate underwriters and internal partners to resolve service needs, answer questions, and support workflow execution
• Identifying issues early, working with underwriting partners to resolve them, and escalating when appropriate.
• Interpret data and set up accounts in appropriate system(s) ensuring accuracy, often working directly with the underwriter.
• Monitor underwriting funnel performance, including renewals, quote volume and identify and communicate the drivers behind observed trends.
• Prepare underwriter ERISA file
• Using underwriting software (STEPWISE) to provide pricing data

What You Bring

Education/Experience:

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Minimum of two (2) years experience in operational role.

Knowledge:

• Basic understanding of the healthcare industry preferred
• Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Demonstrated teamwork, analytical thinking, and interpersonal skills

Salary Range

$56,200 - $75,285

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. This range has been created in good faith based on information known to Horizon at the time of posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case.
