Responsibilities

• Review pending applications and collect information needed to evaluate the case.
• Analyze medical information, inspection reports, MVR reports, and classify risk.
• Communicate with the field on questions about underwriting decisions while handling confidential information.
• Study underwriting materials to stay informed and current.
• Review cases from coworkers for second initialing and offer opinions.
• Refer cases above retention limits to a coworker for second initialing or other action.
• Promote and strengthen relationships between agents and home office.
• Contact doctors' offices, reinsurers, and labs to obtain missing information.
• Advise MIB of reportable information as required by guidelines.

Role and Responsibilities:

The underwriter evaluates applications for life insurance for any amount and makes decisions up to a retention limit of $500,000.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Review pending applications (new business, conversions, reinstatements, and changes to benefits) and make initial requests needed to evaluate the case.
• Analyze medical information, inspection reports, MVR reports and other information, and classify the risk.
• Communicate with the field force on questions regarding pending applications and underwriting decisions while using discretion when discussing privileged and confidential information.
• Study underwriting material, articles, and books to keep informed.
• Review and analyze cases from co-workers for second-initialing and offer opinions and assistance.
• Refer the case to a co-worker for second initialing when the request is above the retention limits, to be cancelled, to be declined, or to be rated.
• Promote and enhance business relations between the agents and home office.
• Contact doctors' offices, reinsurance companies, Home Office Reference Lab, and agents to follow-up on information not received.
• Advise Medical Information Bureau of reportable information as required by MIB guidelines.
