Job summary

AMERISAFE in DeRidder, LA is seeking a detail-oriented underwriter to manage an assigned workers' compensation book and help drive profitability and shareholder value.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma.
• Two years experience as workers’ compensation underwriter.
• Complete the AMERISAFE Underwriting Operations Basic Development Program and have a minimum of one year experience
• Proficiency in MS Office and AMERISAFE systems
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to travel periodically (<10% time) and must possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Ownership of an assigned book of new and/or renewal workers compensation policies that contribute to AMERISAFE profit and production goals
• Evaluates applications, reports, third party information and producer requests to determine risk acceptability
• Adheres to underwriting standards, rules and guidelines and to regulatory rules and guidelines
• Negotiates pricing and coverage details within the designated level of authority
• Develops effective working relationships with producers and colleagues
• Collaborates with other departments (claims, safety, premium audit, sales and marketing) to achieve AMERISAFE goals
• Participates in projects, professional development opportunities and special assignments
• Others as assigned and fosters the AMERISAFE culture of consistency, focus, frugality, ownership and service

Qualifications

• Two years prior experience as a workers’ compensation underwriter
• Successfully complete the AMERISAFE Underwriting Operations Basic Development Program and have a minimum of one year experience
• Proficiency in MS Office and various AMERISAFE systems

• Ability to travel periodically (less than 10% of time) and must possess a valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Applies sound judgement in determining an insurance risk’s acceptability through evaluating applications, reports, third party information and producer requests
  • Adheres to Company underwriting standards, rules and guidelines

  • Works as an effective team member with FSPs, TSMs and other underwriting colleagues
