Job summary

Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State seeks an Autonomous Systems R&D Engineer to design and test guidance and control software for undersea vehicles. You will analyze multi-sensor data, implement algorithms in MATLAB/Python/C++, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on challenging autonomy projects.

This DoD SkillBridge partner role requires a Bachelor’s in engineering/science, strong communication, and the ability to travel for sponsor events and field tests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science is required.
• Experience in algorithm design and data processing is preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Design algorithms for vehicle guidance and control in an undersea environment, including signal processing, detection, classification, tracking, and autonomous decision-making.
• Analyze multi-sensor data to evaluate system performance.
• Design, implement, integrate, and test software to demonstrate guidance and control algorithms.
• Collaborate and communicate with a team of peers.
• Document work through reports and presentations.
• Plan and execute programs advancing autonomous capabilities for current and future applications.
• Investigate and evaluate applicability of theories and practices to development of guidance and control systems.
• Direct and/or participate in major proposal preparation and presentation.
