Job summary

N&S LOCATING SERVICES d.b.a. S&N is seeking a Locate Technician in Clayton, NC to accurately identify and mark underground utilities for safe excavation. You will use specialized locating equipment and GPS devices while maintaining detailed records and following strict safety protocols.

The role requires 1–2 years of utility locating experience, the ability to read maps and blueprints, and strong communication skills to coordinate with construction teams and clients.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• 1-2 years of experience in utility locating or related field.
• Experience with utility maps and blueprints.
• Experience with electronic locating equipment and GPS technology.
• Strong reading comprehension of maps and technical drawings.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough site surveys to identify and mark underground utilities using specialized equipment.
• Interpret and analyze utility maps and blueprints to ensure precise location of utilities.
• Communicate effectively with construction teams and other stakeholders to provide clear and accurate information regarding utility locations.
• Maintain detailed records of all markings and surveys conducted, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and damage during excavation activities.
• Stay updated on industry standards, technology advancements, and regulatory changes related to utility locating.
• Provide training and guidance to junior technicians and new team members as needed.
• Respond promptly to emergency locate requests to support urgent excavation needs.
