Job summary

Sunstall Inc. is seeking a reliable General Pipe Layer to join our civil construction team in Columbia, SC. You will install underground utilities including storm, sanitary, and water mains, reading plans and ensuring proper bedding and backfill.

Responsibilities include setting up lasers and grade rods, maintaining safety, and assisting with trenching and layout. Must have 2+ years in civil/site construction and be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years’ experience as a pipe layer or underground utility laborer in civil/site construction.
• Working knowledge of storm, sanitary, and water main installation methods and materials.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, profiles, and grade stakes.
• Experience using pipe lasers, transits/levels, and grade rods.

Responsibilities

• Install underground utilities including storm sewer, sanitary sewer, water mains and services.
• Set up and use lasers, grade rods, and layout tools to achieve proper line and grade.
• Read and interpret plans, profiles, and grade sheets for accurate pipe installation.
• Ensure proper bedding, backfill, slope, and joint tightness; assist with trench safety.
• Cut, fit, and join pipe using hand tools and power tools.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and store tools properly.
• Follow company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
