Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
• 3+ years of experience on underground transmission or related cable projects.
• Experience with 69kV+ transmission systems.
• Familiarity with CYMCAP and cable-pulling software like Pull Planner or Cable 3D.
• Strong communication and ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission systems per standards.
• Perform calculations for cable ampacity, pulling, grounding, bonding.
• Develop routes, duct banks, manholes, and cable layouts.
• Prepare drawings, specs, material lists, and design packages.
• Review survey and vendor data to support project development.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Support procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Assist with estimates, schedules, proposals, and QA reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and help deliver projects on time.

A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking an Underground Transmission Engineer to support the planning, design, and execution of underground transmission projects ranging from system upgrades to large‑scale cable installations. This role offers the opportunity to work on high‑voltage projects from conceptual routing and design through construction and commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission systems in accordance with utility, client, and industry standards.
• Perform engineering calculations including cable ampacity, cable pulling, grounding, bonding, and cable selection studies.
• Develop underground cable routes, duct banks, manholes, risers, trenchless crossings, and cable system layouts.
• Prepare engineering calculations, construction drawings, specifications, material lists, and design packages.
• Review survey, geotechnical, utility, thermal resistivity, and vendor data to support project development.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Assist with project estimates, schedules, proposals, and quality assurance reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers and support successful project delivery within scope, budget, and schedule requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program.
• 3+ years of experience supporting underground transmission, underground distribution, cable systems, power delivery, or underground utility projects.
• Knowledge of underground cable systems, duct banks, manholes, cable accessories, and installation methodologies.
• Experience developing engineering calculations, design drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Experience with transmission systems operating at 69kV and above.
• Familiarity with CYMCAP and cable-pulling software such as Pull Planner or Cable 3D.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

• EIT certification or progress toward Professional Engineer licensure.
• Experience with trenchless installation design and software such as BoreAid.
• Experience supporting cable procurement, construction, testing, or commissioning activities.
