Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking an Underground Transmission Engineer to support design and engineering of cable systems from concept through construction.

The role covers routing, duct banks, manholes, and transitions from 69kV to 500kV, with collaboration across clients, utilities, vendors, and other disciplines. Applicants should have an ABET-accredited degree and 3+ years in underground transmission or related design, plus proficiency with CYMCAP and cable-pulling tools.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical, Civil, or related engineering.
• 3+ years in underground transmission, underground distribution, cable systems, or related design.
• Experience with underground cable systems, duct banks, manholes and installation methods.
• Experience preparing engineering calculations, drawings, specs, and construction documents.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Experience with 69kV+ transmission systems.
• Experience with CYMCAP and cable-pulling software (Pull Planner, Cable 3D).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments with limited supervision.

Responsibilities

• Design underground transmission systems per applicable standards.
• Perform cable ampacity, pulling, grounding calculations.
• Develop routes, duct banks, manholes, risers, crossings.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications, material lists, packages.
• Review survey, utility, geotechnical, and vendor information.
• Coordinate with clients, vendors, contractors, and teams.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, testing, commissioning.
• Support project estimates, schedules, proposals, QA/QC.
• Guide junior staff and manage assignments to scope, schedule, and budget.
• Participate in client meetings and project-site visits.
