Job summary

Peoples Gas System in Sarasota, FL, is seeking a Pipeline Locator to accurately locate and mark underground facilities, ensuring safety and compliance with Sunshine 811 statutes. The role supports the Damage Prevention Program and collaborates with contractors and public stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has at least 1 year of utility locating experience or ASME B31Q qualifications, GIS map reading knowledge, and strong computer skills. Overtime and emergency response duties may apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
• Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
• Minimum of 1 year of underground utility locating experience or qualify under ASME B31Q.
• Must learn job-related skills and GIS map reading.

Responsibilities

• Receive and respond to excavation notices while adhering to policies and state one-call requirements.
• Locate and mark underground assets on roadways and property using spray paints and flags.
• Operate electronic detection equipment to locate facilities within accuracy limits.
• Perform light excavation with hand tools to expose buried utilities when necessary.
• Provide map updates and record corrections to GIS team.
• Assist with damaged facility investigations and documentation related to excavation damages.
• Build relationships with excavation contractors to reduce damages.
