Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation invites a student in geological, mining, civil engineering or geology to join Round Mountain, NV as an Underground Geotechnical Engineer Intern. You will gain practical experience in underground geotechnical engineering, data collection, monitoring, and reporting under supervision.

You will assist with rock mass mapping, instrumentation, core logging, and ground-support reviews while learning how field observations influence safety and ground-control performance.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in bachelor’s program with ≥2 years of coursework.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and with others.
• Must follow RMGC safety standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Interest in underground mining, rock mechanics, ground support, safety.
• Proficiency with computers; CAD/GIS and geotech data systems are assets.
• Strong written, verbal, analytical, and persuasive skills.
• Able to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong organizational and data-management skills.
• 18+ years old and authorized to work in the United States; valid driver's license.
• Authorization to work in the United States is required.

Responsibilities

• Underground geotechnical mapping of development headings; document rock mass conditions and ground support.
• Collect field data for rock mass characterization per site procedures.
• Assist with installation, inspection, and data collection of underground instrumentation.
• Support core logging and drilling programs; record orientation, recovery, and discontinuities.
• Assist with ground-support QA/QC, sampling, and data review.
• Maintain field notes, photos, databases and geotechnical documentation.
• Collaborate with geotechnical, geology, mine engineering, survey, and operations teams.
• Participate in underground inspections and document changing ground conditions and rehab needs.
• Assist with ground-support design checks, data summaries and technical reports.
• Organize and analyze monitoring and mapping data to identify trends.
• Participate in pre-shift planning, safety processes, and risk assessments.
• Comply with safety, environmental, confidentiality policies and code of conduct.
• Meet performance expectations and exercise professional discretion and judgment.
• Work safely underground and maintain punctuality.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
