Job summary

Brice Civil Constructors Inc in Houston, TX is seeking an Underground Foreman to lead the underground utilities crew on large-scale projects. You will direct work, review schedules, ensure work meets plan specifications, and enforce safety standards on site.

What can you expect?

As the Underground Foreman, you will work onsite in Houston, TX, and the surrounding areas and will be responsible for managing the entire underground utility project construction crew by directing work, reviewing schedules, ensuring the work is completed following plan specifications, and planning equipment needs. This position will be required to enforce the Company’s direction, policies, procedures, and safety standards. The incumbent should have experience with underground utility projects.

How will you do it?
  • Execute work plans and schedules in accordance with contract requirements, plans, and specifications.
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and project plans, making adjustments as necessary due to weather, material availability, deliveries, and personnel.
  • Provide adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, legal requirements, regulations, best practices, and safety standards.
  • Regularly report project status to supervisors, site engineers, and other project officials.
  • Coordinate material and equipment deliveries with vendors and suppliers.
  • Create work schedules for employees and subcontractors.
  • Maintain a daily log of job site operations and report updates to management as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including job quantities, productivity rates, time sheets, and daily management reports.
  • Ensure the timely completion of work assignments within estimated project costs.
  • Continuously monitor crew performance and adjust work plans and schedules as needed, notifying project management of significant changes.
  • Assist with skilled trades and general construction duties as part of the construction crew to ensure successful project completion.
  • Ensure adherence to field project processes and standard operating procedures among team members.
  • Train and develop crew members.
  • Provide leadership and direction to project crews.
  • Promote employee morale and a positive work environment.
  • Ensure safe work practices are consistently followed by all personnel.
  • Conduct oneself in the best interest of the company while performing job duties or representing Brice Civil.
  • Report any incident, situation, or activity that could affect the company’s ability to operate safely, ethically, or profitably to the Field Civil Superintendent or Site Project Manager.
  • Ensure projects are executed safely and in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Actively support the Company’s Health and Safety Program.
  • Stay informed of on-site compliance and safety audits and suspend or modify work practices as directed by the Project Management Team.
  • Verify that all required safety equipment is available and properly used throughout the project.
  • Maintain all certifications required by law and company policy.
  • Work collaboratively as a respectful and supportive team player with coworkers.
  • Maintain a constant state of alertness and perform work safely at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises and directs the underground utilities craft workers and subcontractors.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Advance knowledge of various field construction concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Advance knowledge of materials, terms, and practices in construction field.
  • Advance experience with reading plans and understanding tasks at hand.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Skilled in organizing resources, establishing priorities, meeting deadlines and general time management.
  • Strong leadership skills: ability to take initiative and lead a work crew.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, take direction from supervisor(s), high degree of attention to details, follow work rules, and adhere to project schedule.
  • Customer-service skills to communicate with inspectors and administration to develop a positive working relationship.
  • Decision-making skills for selecting personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks and jobs to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Time-management skills to meet deadlines and ensuring construction phases are completed on time so that the next phase can start.
  • Writing skills for writing budgets, proposals and plans along with documenting work progress for clients and others involved.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure.
  • Strong self-motivation and work ethic; ability to work with or without direct supervision.
  • Ability to participate in group meetings.

Who is Brice Civil Constructors looking for?
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the civil construction field.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervising a construction crew as Foreman or Lead.
  • Must be experienced in storm, water, and sanitary utilities.
  • Valid state driver’s license and must be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving, and background screening.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of scheduling, material control and unit manhour performance, estimating fundamentals and job cost management systems preferred.
  • OSHA 30-hour training completion preferred.
Working Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Brice Civil Constructors has a fast-paced multi-tasking office environment requiring a high degree of efficient and effective performance. At times, work is performed outside of the office at indoor and outdoor job sites. Adaptability regarding schedule and design changes, and occasional overtime for immediate field support or bid processing may be necessary.
