Job summary

GTS is seeking an Underground Foreman/Drilling Operator in Ocala, FL to oversee crews operating directional drilling equipment and related machinery. You will read layouts, locate utilities, and ensure safe, compliant operations on outdoor sites.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of directional drill experience, a valid driver's license (CDL preferred), and a solid understanding of health and safety regulations governing underground construction.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 3–5 years operating a directional drill.

UNDERGROUND FOREMAN/DRILLING OPERATOR - OCALA, FL

The Foreman/Drill an Equipment Operator is responsible for the oversight of the operation of crewmen of a multitude of different directional drilling equipment and other equipment required for underground construction.

Primary Responsibilities

• Operate GTS drill equipment and various other equipment in conjunction with drilling duties. i.e., Directional Drill, Hydro Vac, Excavator, etc.
• Responsible to recognize and locate paint or locate flags of utility placement, and possess the ability to "read the job layout" including valves and meter housings that may or may not have been located
• Ensuring GTS assets (vehicles, equipment, tools, etc.) are properly and continuously maintained in good repair and secured in a safe manner
• Read blueprints, organization of materials, and other resources as necessary to complete excavation requirements, which may include basic hand tools
• Maintain bore logs
• Maintain effective working relationships with those contacted.
• All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Education:
• High school diploma or G.E.D. plus 3-5 years of experience operating a direction drill; or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Experience:
• 3-5 years of experience as a Directional Drill Locator
• Ability to drill in both standard and high-risk areas, such as areas with live utilities
• Ability to listen to and implement directions
• Knowledge of highway traffic control standards
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of all equipment
• Knowledge of Underground Construction practices
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations, practices and procedures
• Knowledge of reading and interpreting Fiber maps and/or CATV design prints

• Technical Skills:
• Ability to identify and use the tools required for maintaining and servicing machinery, as well as the ability to diagnose and/or relay any problems to a certified repair technician
• Ability to read and interpret construction and engineering plans
• Ability to research land and plat information and communicate design prints
• Ability to accurately sketch and record field notes and computations field as-builts
• Ability to perform and/or instruct entry level skills and practices as required

• Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
• Individuals must have a valid driver's license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions. Class A CDL license is preferred.
• Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 80 pounds includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
• Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather and in the near proximity to vehicular traffic
• May be required to work long and unpredictable hours

• WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Exposure to varying temperatures as work is primarily outside.
• Noise levels are moderate to heavy.
• Work in different types of terrain including water, sand, and dirt.
• Varying degrees of light as work may begin early morning and continue in the evenings and overnight.

• PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to carry 60-70 1bs, to include an extension ladder.
• Must be able to work at 28 feet or higher.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to bend, stand, sit, crawl, climb and lift throughout work shift.

• REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Must possess a valid Driver's License during the term of employment.
• Must possess a valid DOT Medical Certificate during the term of employment.
