Job summary

Morton Salt, Inc. seeks an Electrical Project Engineer to support underground mining electrical systems from design through commissioning. You will manage capital and expense projects, collaborate with Operations and Maintenance, and drive reliability improvements.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 3+ years in mining or heavy industry, and experience with switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and PLCs. Field work includes underground environments and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; equivalent experience accepted.
• Minimum 3 years of electrical engineering experience in mining, heavy industrial, or similar environments.
• Experience with electrical design, installation, testing, and commissioning.
• Knowledge of one-line diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Experience with switchgear, transformers, MCCs, motors, VFDs, and protection systems.
• Ability to read and develop electrical diagrams and calculations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage electrical capital and expense projects from design through installation and closeout.
• Provide engineering support for underground and surface mine electrical distribution systems.
• Support protection systems, MCCs, motors, VFDs, and related equipment.
• Review drawings, specifications, and documentation for electrical projects.
• Coordinate contractors and internal resources; ensure safety and regulatory compliance.
• Troubleshoot electrical failures and improve equipment reliability.
• Assist with startup, commissioning, and field acceptance of projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability, energy efficiency and productivity.
