Overview

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks an Underground Crew Member.

Successful candidates should have prior experience working as part of a construction crew.

Foreman:

• Supervise and guide crew members performing underground utility work.
• Read and interpret site plans, drawings, and scopes of work proficiently.
• Operate heavy equipment safely, such as backhoes, trenchers, and mini-excavators.
• Ensure safety and compliance, effectively communicate safety requirements, and enforce best practices.
• Understand OSHA Shoring & Trenching standards.
• Lead Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) meetings.
• Coordinate personnel, materials, and equipment for projects.
• Follow detailed construction schedules.
• Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Coordinate effectively within the company and with external teams.
• Willing to travel and work away from home.

Linemen (A, B, C):

• Perform physical labor, including digging, rigging, and lifting.
• Identify circuit voltages and work with energized enclosures.
• Read blueprints and understand safety procedures.
• Lead crew in installing transformers, enclosures, and performing live switching.
• Operate heavy equipment and perform rigging and lifting tasks.
• Work safely in confined spaces and at heights.
• Understand and apply grounding, phasing, and minimum approach distance procedures.

Equipment Operator:

• Operate heavy equipment safely during underground work.
• Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
• Understand blueprints and rigging principles.
• Follow directions and work in confined spaces.

Groundman:

• Assist with construction and maintenance tasks.
• Understand safety protocols and perform physical labor.
• Support crew with materials, flagging, and site organization.

Qualifications

Must be physically capable of performing the job, including lifting up to 75 pounds, climbing, and working outdoors in various weather conditions. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, with the ability to focus. Outdoor work involves exposure to weather, animals, insects, and other hazards.
