Overview

Sumter Utilities, Inc. (a Quanta Services company) seeks entire Overhead Crews (Foreman, A Lineman, B Lineman, C Lineman, Operator, Groundman).

Successful candidates will possess existing experience working together as a construction crew. Preference may also be given to candidates who can bring additional qualified candidates to form complete work crews.

Responsibilities

All classifications listed below are applicable to this job posting.

  • Willingness to travel long distances on short notice, when required.
  • Ability to work for extended periods in various locations.

Foreman:
  • Supervise & provide technical guidance to Linemen, Apprentices, and Groundmen on electrical distribution projects.
  • Coordinate personnel and crew mobilization on-site.
  • Enforce safety requirements and best practices.
  • Use new technologies (mobile devices/apps) to improve efficiency.
  • Manage supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Assist with planning, directing, and budgeting for construction projects.
  • Read and interpret site plans, drawings, and scopes of work.
  • Communicate with project personnel including General Foremen, Superintendents, and Managers.
  • Follow detailed construction schedules.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and scopes of work.
  • Effective collaboration across company levels.
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home.
  • Experience with utility equipment like digger derricks, bucket trucks, trenchers, etc.
  • Ability to work at heights over 60 feet is preferred.
A Lineman:

Perform physical labor, identify voltages, read blueprints, lead assembly and erection of structures, perform hot line work, operate bucket trucks and other equipment, climb structures, and demonstrate teamwork and safety awareness.

B Lineman:

Work safely on energized and de-energized lines, set poles, maintain equipment, and perform related tasks with a focus on safety and teamwork.

C Lineman:

Maintain active enrollment in the apprenticeship program, perform similar duties as B Lineman, and develop skills in line work and safety.

Equipment Operator:
  • Operate heavy equipment safely.
  • Perform manual tasks and assist in line stringing, pole setting, and equipment maintenance.
Groundman:
  • Assist with construction and maintenance tasks, follow instructions, perform manual labor, and support crew safety and organization.
Qualifications

Must be able to sit, climb, balance, and perform physical tasks including lifting up to 75 pounds. Work outdoors in various weather conditions and hazards is expected.
