Job summary

Lakeshore Recycling Systems in the United States is hiring Commercial Drivers to operate heavy-duty trucks with front or rear end load lift attachments. You will provide pickup service for waste and recyclables, with loads exceeding 1000 pounds, requiring careful backing and precise container handling.

Qualifications

  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Class B CDL.
  • Must have a valid DOT medical card or obtain prior to hire.
  • No DUI/OVI within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years.
  • No license suspensions within the last 2 years.
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing.
  • Must be able to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Lakeshore Waste Services safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA and DOT requirements and all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the DVIR.
  • Report unsafe situations or service-related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled training programs and meetings.
  • Work with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
  • Notify Route Manager of incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Notify Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, or potential hazards.
  • Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager.
  • Identify and report containers in need of repair or replacement.
  • Ensure the number of containers on the route matches the service list.
  • Complete and leave customer locations clean with no debris.
  • Submit customer tickets when excessive yardage must be removed.
  • Return containers with lids properly replaced.
  • Follow route assignments and complete end of day documentation.
  • Perform all duties as scheduled and assist other drivers as directed.

Job Description

The Commercial Drivers are responsible for operating heavy-duty trucks with front or rear end load lift attachment. Drivers are responsible for providing the pickup service of containers filled with waste or recyclable materials. Containers may weigh in excess of 1000 pounds and at times require drivers to maneuver wheeled containers to a pickup stage area. Driver will transport the material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. This role navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to successfully perform this job.

Operations Supervisor

  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Lakeshore Waste Services safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act), and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
  • Immediately report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by LRS or directed by the Route Manager
  • Work closely with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices
  • Notify Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage
  • Notify Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways or potential safety hazards
  • Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager
  • Identify and report all containers in need of repair or replacement
  • Ensure the number of containers on the route reconciles to the service level listed on service list
  • Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer’s location clean and free of debris
  • Complete and submit customer tickets as required when excessive yardage must be removed
  • Position and return containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced
  • Ensure doors are closed and secured and containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic
  • Follow route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and check out process
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or Dispatch and assisting other drivers as directed to meet customer needs
  • Perform other job duties as required
