Job summary

LRS in Michigan is seeking a CDL driver to operate heavy-duty trucks for waste and recycling pickups in compliance with safety rules and DOT requirements.

You will perform pre- and post-trip inspections, complete routine paperwork, and coordinate with the Route Manager to ensure on-time pickups while keeping work sites clean.

This role requires 18+, a valid Class B CDL, a DOT medical card, a clean driving record, and English proficiency; teamwork and safety are essential.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must have a valid Class B CDL and DOT medical card.
  • No DUI/OVI within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years; no license suspensions in 2 years.
  • Must be able to read and speak English well enough to understand directions and safety training.

Responsibilities

  • Operate vehicle in accordance with safety, OSHA, and DOT requirements.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections and document DVIRs.
  • Immediately report unsafe situations or service issues to Route Manager.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled trainings and meetings.
  • Work with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and best practices.
  • Notify Route Manager or Dispatch of incidents and service interruptions.
  • Complete customer tickets when excessive yardage is removed.
  • Return containers on customer properties with lids secured.
  • Complete end-of-day documentation and checkout.

  • Be Accountable, The Commercial Drivers are responsible for operating heavy-duty trucks with front or rear end load lift attachment. Drivers are responsible for providing the pickup service of containers filled with waste or recyclable materials. Containers may weigh in excess of 1000 pounds and at times require drivers to maneuver wheeled containers to a pickup stage area. Driver will transport the material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. This role navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to successfully perform this job.
Reports To

Operations Supervisor

  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Lakeshore Waste Services safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act), and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws
  • Perform pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
  • Immediately report all unsafe situations or service-related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by LRS or directed by the Route Manager
  • Work closely with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices
  • Notify Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage
  • Notify Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including blocked containers, closed lots, streets, alleyways or potential safety hazards
  • Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager
  • Identify and report all containers in need of repair or replacement
  • Ensure the number of containers on the route reconciles to the service level listed on service list
  • Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer’s location clean and free of debris
  • Complete and submit customer tickets as required when excessive yardage must be removed
  • Position and return containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced
  • Ensure doors are closed and secured and containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic
  • Follow route assignments as directed and completes end of day documentation and check out process
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or Dispatch and assisting other drivers as directed to meet customer needs
  • Perform other job duties as required
  • Eligible to work in the United State without requiring sponsorship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have at least a valid Class B CDL
  • Must have a valid DOT medical card or obtain prior to hire
  • Must not have any DUI’s or OVI's within the last 5 years or 2 in the last 10 years
  • Must not have any license suspensions within the last 2 years
  • No more than 3 moving violations within the last 2 years
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
  • Must be able to read and speak English well enough to communicate, understand, and respond to questions, directions, traffic signs, signals, and safety training
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to stand and walk
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
